Coherence and Consciousness
The inner dimension of the foundational principle
By Kris of Tap Coherence LLC
Consciousness is not merely the arena in which Coherence is observed, it is itself a Coherence phenomenon. The quality of awareness, the clarity of perception, and the depth of understanding all depend on the Coherence of the conscious system.
Of all the domains in which Coherence operates, consciousness is perhaps the most intimate, and the most mysterious. We know what it feels like when our consciousness is coherent: the mind is clear, attention is focused, perception is sharp, and understanding comes easily. We know equally well what it feels like when consciousness is incoherent: the mind is scattered, attention is fragmented, perception is distorted, and understanding is elusive.
But what is actually happening in these two states? What is the difference, at a deeper level, between a coherent and an incoherent state of consciousness?
The answer, I believe, lies in the degree to which the different aspects of consciousness, attention, intention, emotion, cognition, and awareness itself, are aligned and integrated. When these aspects are coherent with each other, consciousness can function at its highest level. When they are fragmented, when attention is pulled in multiple directions, when emotion distorts cognition, when intention is unclear, consciousness operates at a fraction of its potential.
This has profound implications for how we understand human potential. If the quality of consciousness depends on its Coherence, then the development of human potential is, at its core, a project of cultivating Coherence, of learning to align attention, intention, emotion, and cognition in ways that allow consciousness to function at its highest level.
It also has implications for how we understand the relationship between consciousness and reality. If consciousness is a Coherence phenomenon, and if reality is itself a Coherence phenomenon at the quantum level, then the relationship between consciousness and reality is not merely that of an observer and an observed, it is a relationship between two Coherence fields, each influencing the other in ways that we are only beginning to understand.
This is the frontier of the inquiry. It is where quantum physics, consciousness research, and the study of human potential converge, and where the deepest implications of Coherence as a foundational principle begin to reveal themselves.
