For most of human history, we have understood reality as fundamentally material, made of solid, separate things that interact according to fixed laws. The atom was the ultimate building block. Space was the container. Time was the river. And the universe was, at bottom, a vast machine operating according to deterministic principles.

Quantum physics shattered this picture. At the quantum level, reality is not made of solid things, it is made of relationships, probabilities, and fields of possibility. Particles do not have definite positions until they are observed. Entangled particles influence each other instantaneously across any distance. The act of measurement changes what is measured. And the universe, at its deepest level, is not a machine, it is a participatory phenomenon.

Quantum Coherence, the phenomenon by which quantum systems maintain consistent phase relationships, enabling interference and the emergence of complex order, is not merely a technical curiosity. It is a window into the fundamental nature of reality. When quantum Coherence is present, possibilities interfere constructively, and new forms of order emerge that would be impossible in a purely classical system. When Coherence is lost, through incoherence, the interaction of a quantum system with its environment, the quantum possibilities collapse into classical probabilities, and the richness of quantum reality gives way to the more limited world of classical physics.

The Theory of Infinity, which I have been developing since 2011, extends these insights into a broader framework. It proposes that what we experience as reality is a particular expression of a deeper field of coherent potential, that the universe is not merely a collection of things interacting in space and time, but a coherent whole in which intelligence, consciousness, and possibility are fundamental rather than emergent properties.

This is not mysticism. It is a rigorous attempt to follow the implications of quantum physics to their logical conclusion, and to develop a framework that can account for phenomena that the standard model of physics cannot adequately explain: the relationship between consciousness and physical reality, the nature of time and causality, the emergence of complexity and order from apparent randomness.

What does this mean for how we understand Coherence? It means that Coherence is not merely a useful concept for understanding human systems, it is a fundamental property of reality itself. The universe is Coherent at its deepest level. And the degree to which any system, energetic, physical, biological, social, or technological, expresses at its core how Coherence determines the degree to which it can participate in the full comprehensive richness of what reality makes possible and its affect on the Whole as a result.
